Binding is black calf, with identically blind stamped upper and lower covers. Double fillet in gilt around the edges of the cover with a third fillet in a blind stamped chain-link design within. The centre of the covers has a blank oval medallion surrounded by a floral filligree. The spine has three raised bands stamped in gold and the spine tile in gold on a red background. "British Switzerland / Illustrated". Two lines of gold filled fillet top and bottom. On the fore and top edges of the covers is the same linked chain design as on the cover fillet, but in gilt. The end papers and paste downs are marblized and this is repeated on the edges of the text block.
