Map referred to in list of plates, [p. i] for v.1 is missing. Vol. 1: [8], [iii]-x, 96 p.; v. 2: [2], 76 p. Binding is black calf, with identically blind stamped upper and lower covers. Double fillet in gilt around the edges of the cover with a third fillet in a blind stamped chain-link design within. The centre of the covers has a blank oval medallion surrounded by a floral filligree. The spine has three raised bands stamped in gold and the spine tile in gold on a red background. "British Switzerland / Illustrated". Two lines of gold filled fillet top and bottom. On the fore and top edges of the covers is the same linked chain design as on the cover fillet, but in gilt. The end papers and paste downs are marblized and this is repeated on the edges of the text block.

Bibliographic Notes Some wear on binding; label on spine is in red with gilt embossed title that reads "British Switzerland / Illustrated"; writing in pencil on one of the first pages; first pages beginning to come apart at the binding; the two volumes are bound together; the binder's directions state a map of the lakes faces the Introduction, however, no map appears; there are two title pages, the first illustrated with a view of the Langdale Pikes
