Critical Annotation This guide is largely comprised of detailed, hand-drawn trail maps. The maps are annotated with advice for the traveler, including which trails are best to avoid in bad weather, which spots lend themselves to landscape drawing, and the approximate time it takes to travel from one point to another by foot. They also indicate landmarks such as signposts, gates, sheep, and viewpoints. Along with the maps, the guide includes drawings and written descriptions of the local hostels, making note of relevant amenities and restrictions. The book is attributed to Martyn Hanks, the illustrator. According to the "Acknowledgments" section, "the text was written principally by Lindsey Porter, with assistance on the route descriptions by Martyn Hanks."
