||Mary Burkett was an influential director of the Abbott Hall Art Gallery and the Museum of Lakeland Life and Industry, Kendall. She lived in the Lake District for over twenty years, and made it the subject of her art and photography. She was a world leader in the art of felt-making, and periodically gave lectures on art and photography.
