Bound in boards which have worn marbling on the outside and with a slightly damaged leather spine.

Two hands; Adam Matthews database entry implies one main hand, whereas BCMSV database implies a mix of hands; to me the second hand (if it is a new hand), beginning f. 71 with the Carter poem, seems to match that of the signature on the first leaf of the book. The second hand is a somewhat variable hand.

Possibly later use of the book by ambigraph copying of Gentleman’s Magazine items 1803-4.

ff. 1-70 heavy bars separating titles/ headnotes from poems; freehand rising (oblique) line on the right-hand side of the page at the ends of poems.

From ff 71f, no lines between titles and poems, just a generous space; the end of the first poem marked “Finis” (f. 82), but not a regular practice.

Entries on rectos only, except "Mason’s epitaph for Abigal[sic] Drummond" on f. 86v inserted there to be opposite “On the death of Miss C. Drummond aged 11 Months ...” on 87r.
