Feature Note
Author attributions

Frequent. For the most part regular, but less towards the end of the book.

Binding

Pre-bound paperbook. Eighty-seven pages blank; leaves excised at various points.

Contemporary binding of green calf over card, with compartment of single gilt rule on covers and gilt oval tools between false bands on spine.

Large-comb endpapers.

Hands

Single, though later items loosely written in larger (possibly quicker) hand.

Indications of use

Multiple excisions.

Item formatting

Generally a free-drawn horizontal line between items, but not a decoratively presented book.

Original poetry

Maybe. Nine poems are attributed to the compiler's half-brother, Lord Byron, by the addition either of his name or of the letter 'B' at the head. Some of the answers might be by the compiler.

Ownership mark

"Augusta Byron August 25th 1805" in ink on verso of front flyleaf, and beneath in pencil, "Castle Howard"
