0:00:14.230,0:00:19.810
ready-made rainbow in case you don't

0:00:16.750,0:00:22.000
it's called Russell's rainbow and I'll

0:00:19.810,0:00:24.130
show you where to access it and a quick

0:00:22.000,0:00:27.669
effective way to add it to your outdoor

0:00:24.130,0:00:30.720
photos this is an update to a tutorial i

0:00:27.669,0:00:33.520
did on an earlier version of Photoshop

0:00:30.720,0:00:36.670
open a photo you'd like to add a rainbow

0:00:33.520,0:00:41.020
to I downloaded this one and the others

0:00:36.670,0:00:43.510
from shutterstock.com the first step is

0:00:41.020,0:00:46.390
to click the new layer icon to make a

0:00:43.510,0:00:49.690
new layer in this empty layer will

0:00:46.390,0:00:53.590
create our rainbow open your gradient

0:00:49.690,0:00:57.310
tool open your gradient thumbnails and

0:00:53.590,0:01:01.860
click the gear icon to open your list of

0:00:57.310,0:01:05.439
gradient presets click special effects

0:01:01.860,0:01:08.140
when you see this window click append to

0:01:05.439,0:01:10.899
add the special effects preset to the

0:01:08.140,0:01:13.770
current gradient thumbnails click the

0:01:10.899,0:01:17.079
last icon which is Russell's rainbow

0:01:13.770,0:01:20.710
click the radial gradient icon which

0:01:17.079,0:01:22.780
gives us the arc of the rainbow go to

0:01:20.710,0:01:26.350
the lower right corner of your document

0:01:22.780,0:01:29.020
and press and hold shift as you drag

0:01:26.350,0:01:30.999
across the line to approximately where

0:01:29.020,0:01:34.479
you want the outside of your rainbow to

0:01:30.999,0:01:36.789
end then release pressing shift kept the

0:01:34.479,0:01:39.520
line perfectly horizontal as you dragged

0:01:36.789,0:01:42.880
it across if you want the rainbow to arc

0:01:39.520,0:01:45.700
on the opposite side just drag the

0:01:42.880,0:01:48.299
gradient line from the lower left across

0:01:45.700,0:01:48.299
to the right

0:01:49.770,0:01:59.150
go to filter blur and Gaussian blur

0:01:55.730,0:02:01.340
upload 50 pixels however depending on

0:01:59.150,0:02:04.840
the resolution of your photo you may

0:02:01.340,0:02:04.840
want to use a different blur amount

0:02:05.440,0:02:09.910
to make the rainbow blend into the sky

0:02:07.960,0:02:13.030
better we need to do a few more

0:02:09.910,0:02:15.630
adjustments first change its blend mode

0:02:13.030,0:02:15.630
to screen

0:02:16.630,0:02:22.530
and reduce its opacity between 50 to 70

0:02:20.230,0:02:24.660
percent

0:02:22.530,0:02:26.730
since rainbows gradually disappear as

0:02:24.660,0:02:30.420
they get closer to the ground we'll make

0:02:26.730,0:02:32.550
our rainbow do that as well click the

0:02:30.420,0:02:35.220
layer mask icon to make a layer mask

0:02:32.550,0:02:37.910
next to the rainbow

0:02:35.220,0:02:42.090
open your gradient thumbnails and click

0:02:37.910,0:02:46.170
the black white gradient click the

0:02:42.090,0:02:49.830
linear gradient icon go to the bottom of

0:02:46.170,0:02:52.680
your document press and hold shift and

0:02:49.830,0:02:58.860
drag up the gradient line to the top

0:02:52.680,0:03:02.960
then release this is Marty from Blue

0:00:09.360,0:00:15.040
Hi. This is Marty from Blue Lightning TV.
Do you know that Photoshop ships with a ready-made

0:00:15.040,0:00:20.960
rainbow? In case you don't, it's called "Russell's
Rainbow" and I'll show you where to access

0:00:20.970,0:00:26.859
it and a quick, effective way to add it to
your outdoor photos. This is an update to

0:00:26.859,0:00:30.039
a tutorial I did on an earlier version of Photoshop.

0:00:31.440,0:00:34.020
Open a photo you'd like to add a rainbow to.

0:00:34.440,0:00:38.980
I downloaded this one and the
others from Shutterstock.com.

0:00:40.160,0:00:44.360
The first step is to click the New Layer icon to make a new layer.

0:00:44.700,0:00:47.120
In this empty layer we'll create our

0:00:47.129,0:00:56.289
rainbow. Open your Gradient Tool, open your
gradient thumbnails and click the gear icon

0:00:56.289,0:01:04.509
to open your list of gradient presets. Click
"Special Effects". When you see this window,

0:01:04.509,0:01:09.969
click "Append" to add the Special Effects
preset to the current gradient thumbnails.

0:01:10.520,0:01:17.000
Click the last icon, which is "Russells
Rainbow". Click the "Radial Gradient" icon,

0:01:17.000,0:01:23.829
which will give us the arc of the rainbow.
Go to the lower, right corner of your document

0:01:23.829,0:01:29.630
and press and hold Shift as you drag across
the line to approximately where you want the

0:01:29.630,0:01:36.229
outside of your rainbow to end. Then, release.
Pressing Shift, kept the line perfectly horizontal

0:01:36.229,0:01:42.469
as you dragged it across. If you want the
rainbow to arc on the opposite side, just

0:01:42.469,0:01:46.669
drag the gradient line from the lower, left
across to the right.

0:01:50.240,0:01:54.360
Go to Filter, Blur and Gaussian Blur.

0:01:56.100,0:02:01.140
I'll blur it 50 pixels, however,
depending on the resolution of your photo, you

0:02:01.149,0:02:03.509
may want to use a different blur amount.

0:02:05.980,0:02:08.740
To make the rainbow blend into the sky better,

0:02:08.750,0:02:14.330
we need to do a few more adjustments. First,
change its blend to "Screen" its

0:02:17.220,0:02:20.900
and reduce opacity between 50 to 70%.

0:02:22.400,0:02:25.460
Since rainbows
gradually disappear as they the closer to

0:02:25.470,0:02:32.180
the ground, we'll make our rainbow do that,
as well. Click the Layer Mask icon to make

0:02:32.180,0:02:39.960
a layer mask next to the rainbow. Open your
gradient thumbnails and click the "Black,

0:02:39.960,0:02:48.560
White" gradient. Click the "Linear Gradient"
icon, go to the bottom of your document, press

0:02:48.560,0:02:54.060
and hold Shift and drag up the gradient line
to the top. Then, release.

0:02:57.680,0:03:00.020
This is Marty from Blue Lightning TV.

0:03:00.540,0:03:01.380
Thanks for watching!
