thanks for watching
Hi. This is Marty from lightning TV.
I'm going to show you how to create this sleek, custom, chrome logo.
Make a new document by pressing Ctrl + N on WIndows
or Cmd + N on a Mac.
Make the Width 1550 pixels,
the Height 870 pixels and the Resolution 150 pixels per inch.
Let's start by making the background first.
Go to View and make sure "Snap" is checked.
If it isn't, just click on it. Click New Guide
and type in 50% in the Vertical orientation
Then, click OK or press Enter or Return.
This makes a vertical guide in the center of your document.
If you don't see it, press Ctrl or Cmd + H.
Go back to View and New Guide. This time,
tick Horizontal and type in 50%.
We now have the exact center of the document.
Open your Gradient Tool
and click the Radial Gradient icon. Click the Gradient bar
to open the Gradient Editor.
Click the Black, White preset and click the lower, left Stop.
Click the color box and type in "B3" three times.
three times this creates
This creates 70% gray. Then, click OK
or press Enter or Return. Click to lower, right Stop,
the color box and type in 10% for Brightness.
This creates a very dark grey.
Press Enter or Return twice to close the Color Picker
and the Gradient Editor. Go to the center of the guidelines
and hold down Shift as you drag the gradient line to the right
edge of your document. Let's give your background some color.
Click the Adjustment layer icon and click
Check Colorize and pick a hue you like for your background.
For mine, I'll type in: 236.
Click the New Layer icon to make a new layer.
Let's name it "Starburst". If your
foreground and background colors
are black and white respectively, invert them by
either clicking this curved, double-arrow icon or by pressing
"x" on your keyboard. Open your Shape tools
and click the Polygon Tool. Choose "Pixels".
If you're working on version CS5 or earlier,
the "Pixel" icon is here. Click the gear icon
and check "Star". Indent the sides by 99%
and type in 100 for the sides. Go to the center of the guidelines
and drag out the starburst shape until it
goes past the edges of your document.
Rotate it slightly, so the top of your
starburst is vertical with the guideline.
Then, release your computer mouse or pen. Change the Blend Mode
to "Difference". Click the New Layer icon
to make a new layer. Invert the foreground and background colors
and open your Custom Shape Tool.
open your Shapes and click the small gear
icon on the right to open your list of custom shape presets.
Click "Small List"and click the gear icon again.
Choose "Shapes". Click OK
to replace the existing preset in the window with the new shape preset.
Scroll down and click "Diamond".
Click the gear icon at the top.
Tick "Unconstrained" and check "From Center".
Go to the center & drag out a diamond
approximately the size and shape. Reduce the opacity to 40%
and make a copy of it by pressing Ctrl + J on Windows
or Cmd + J on a Mac. We're going to reduce the size of this copy.
To do this, open your Transform Tool
by pressing Ctrl or Cmd + T.
Click the chain link icon. This links the percentage
in the Width and the Height. In the Width field,
type in 90.
Notice the height also changed to 90%.
Then, press the Enter or Return.
Increase the copy's opacity to 50%
Make a copy of it
and open your Transform Tool
This time, don't click the chain link. We want to change the Width,
but keep the Height, as is. Reduce the Width
Then, press Enter or Return.
Double-click the largest diamond shape. This makes it
active and opens its Layer Style window.
Click "Outer Glow". Click the color box
and pick white.
Increase the opacity to 100% and make the size 117 pixels.
Then, click OK.
Let's group the diamond shape layers into a folder. To do this,
Shift-click on the top shape, which highlights all of them
and press Ctrl or Cmd + G.
If you decide you want to modify the size later,
just open your Transform Tool, hold down Shift
and drag the corners in or out. To compress or expand the shape,
go to a side, hold down Shift and drag it in or out.
This applies to the top and bottom, as well.
Let's name the folder, "Diamond shapes".
We can hide the guidelines now. Press Ctrl or Cmd + H.
We're ready to set our text.
Open your Horizontal Type Tool and click the foreground color.
In Brightness, type in 70%.
This will be the underlying shade we choose for the font
because the chrome effect works best starting with medium grey.
I'm using a font called, "Nero". If you'd like to use it,
I provided its link in the video description or project files.
if you're not sure how to install fonts,
watch my tutorial showing how to do it.
I provided that link, as well. For this font,
I'll make the size 183 points
"None" for the anti-alias and "Center Alignment".
Click on your document
and type that your text. We need to
increase the space or "kerning" between
the characters a bit.
We're doing this because the text will ultimately have outer bevels.
This will require more room around each
character to prevent them from
overlapping each other. To increase the kerning,
click between two characters and hold down Alt or Option
as you press the Right arrow key on your keyboard
a few times.
To center your line of text, click your Move Tool,
press Ctrl or Cmd + A to select it
and click the Align Horizontal Centers icon
and the Align Vertical Centers icon.
To deselect it, press Ctrl or Cmd + D.
Click the "fx" icon and choose
Bevel & Emboss.
The Style is Inner Bevel and the Technique is Smooth.
SLide the Depth all the way to the right.
The Direction is Up and make the size 30 pixels.
Soften it 5 pixels. Then click OK.
Before we make our text into chrome,
let's convert it into a Smart Object,
so if we decide to make changes to our text later,
we can make the changes without having to repeat all the steps.
Click the icon at the top right of the Layers panel
and click "Convert to Smart Object". You know it's a Smart Object
