Maryam Kashani was born and raised in San Francisco. She received her MFA in Film/Video from the California Institute of the Arts and is a PhD candidate in Anthropology at the University of Texas in Austin. As a filmmaker she is interested in the realtionships between particular humanities and communities, physical landscapes, and historical processes and change. Her film and video works have been exhibited internationally at film festivals, universities, and museums.

Maryam Kashani is currently a graduate student in Social Anthropology at the University of Texas, Austin, where she is examining issues of politics, identity, transnationalism, and Islam. She holds an MFA in Film/Video from the California Institute of the Arts. She began her filmmaking practice as an undergraduate at UC Berkeley. Her film and video work has been screened in festivals and museums internationally.
