A NEW SONG,

Sung by Mr. JOHANNOT, in the Character of an Irish Volunteer, in the Scene of the Sugar Plantation, in the Military Pantomime, called THE BESIEGERS BESIEGED, or the Present State of the West-India Islands, now performing with universal applause, at ASTLEY’s Amphitheatre, Westminster Bridge.

The Words by Mr. ASTLEY, sen.

Och! Judy, my granny, was fond of the sweets,

And knew all the virtues of Whiskey so well,

That for puddings and pies, for crout, and sweetmeats,

Ay, and choice apple dumplings, she bore of the bell!

Och! then for preserving she’s got such a name,

And in tossing a pancake was always so handy,

That my grandaddy took her to better his fame,

And she used to call him her dear Sugar Candy.

But granny ne’er thought grandaddy was wrong,

So call’d him her sugar-plumb, sweet, and what not;

Then she patted his cheek, and she told him a song,

And bade him not make quite so free with the pot.

But grandaddy, somehow, forgot what she said,

And in lifting his hand to his mouth was so handy,

That, by some means or other, he drank himself dead,

And there was an end of her dear Sugar Candy.

Poor Judy, my granny, was now left alone,

And the boys in Kilkenny all pitied her case,

When she cast a sheep’s eye at one Paddy Mahone.

And he led her to Church, where the Parson said grace;

And Paddy and Judy so well now agree,

For granny’s a huswife so loving and handy,

That he says, “Och! you’re all Barley Sugar to me,”

And she christens him her own sweet Sugar Candy.

[three star symbol] We have now detailed the whole of the Songs in this popular Pantomime; we have only to add, that it will be performed EVERY EVENING THIS WEEK, and no longer.
