The performances at Astley’s are well selected, and rich in variety. As to their excellence, every body bestows the greatest encomiums on them; they say the redoute Chinoise is represented in the most elegant stile possible. The pile of building, illuminated with beautiful transparent paintings, and laid out in the Chinese taste, does the Artists much credit, and produces a charming effect. The Horsemanship, by young Astley and his pupils, is very capital; and the Ombres Chinoises please as much as ever, which, with the other entertainments, form a very interesting evening’s amusements.
