THE MONSTER.

———

A new musical piece was produced last night at Astley’s, called The Monster, and being brought forward at a time when the attention of all London was engaged in discovering him, cannot fail of producing full houses. Astley seems to have taken up the matter very seriously, as the piece abounds with much satire against the Monster—the songs are also well adapted—the chorus of one concluding as follows :

“When this Monster is taken in the fact,

“We’ll have him tri’d by the Coventry Act,

            “The Black Act,

            “The Coventry Act:”

produced unbounded applause. The piece will certainly be a good acquisition to Astley, who is said to be the author.

Young Astley last night also launched a new pantomime (of his own composition) called the Death of General Wolfe, which is replete with variety, particularly the scenes exhibiting part of Armies, the encampments of the two armies, and the fall of General Wolfe at the moment of victory, which was so inimitably well performed, that it very deservedly gained the highest applause. Young Astley performed the character of General Wolfe with a great propriety; the house was completely full in all parts; numbers could not find room. The Pantomime and the Monster were given out for every evening this week, after which, we hear, it will be laid by for some time to make room for other new entertainments, as Astley is determined to keep up an unremitting variety.
