A gentleman asked ASTLEY last night, how he came to cut the long processions, in the Confederation, so short? He replied, that as it was originally a French piece, he followed the celebrated Voltaire’s principles of stage effect, bon et court;--“Besides,” says Astley, (pointing to the Lady with the head of long hair) “if you are fond of length, there is plenty.”—The Grimacer could not have more powerfully moved the muscles of the by-standers than the above à-propos reply to the question—the Man in Miniature appearing almost at the same instant, and being so short, kept up the comic scene, to the no final entertainment of the parties.
