THEATRICAL CROWNING

Of Mr. POWELL, the celebrated Pedestrian.

ROYAL GROVE,

ASTLEY’s AMPHITHEATRE, Westminster Bridge,

THIS present MONDAY 6, Tuesday 7, and Wednesday 8th of September 1790.

This famous Englishman will be crowned with laurels upon this Theatre, which is purposely prepared for the occasion, as is the scenery, machinery, dancers, songs, chorus, &c. and the ceremony of Theatrical Crowning will take place in the same manner as was represented at the Couronemet of Mons. Voltaire, at the Comedie François, in Paris, some few years past.

Mr. POWELL will appear in the dress he wore on the road, on his last journey to York, and give the spectators a specimen of the place he commonly keeps on the road, which is superior to that of any horse for a continuance of time.

N.B. Mr. ASTLEY, in exhibiting this famous Pedestrian to the public, has had an eye to the ceremony of the Roman victors, (who were peculiarly distinguished by that brave and warlike people) under an idea that it would be equally pleasing to Englishmen, whose superiority in Athletic Exercise and Bravery stands unrivalled through the world.
