The Herald - Wednesday, June 5, 1895

The "Pall Mall Gazette" this evening publishes a statement in regard to Oscar Wilde, the well-known dramatic author, who was recently sentenced by Mr Justice Wills, at the Old Bailey, to two years' imprisonment for abominable practices.

The "Gazette" says that under the ignominy and disgrace of his condition as a common felon, Wilde's mind has completely given way, and that he is now a raving lunatic.

So violent is he, declares the authorities, that Wilde has to be confined in a padded cell, in order to prevent him from doing himself injury.
