The South Australian Chronicle - Saturday, June 8, 1895
It was originally determined by the gaol authorities to give Oscar Wilde six hours a day on the treadmill, but owing to his present weak state of health the task has been changed to oakum-picking. It was believed that he would refuse to labor, but he performs the task as efficiently as his health will permit, and the authorities are satisfied with his behavior. The governor of the gaol denies that Wilde has manifested any tendency to insanity.
