London, April 26. -- The trial of Oscar Wilde and his companion Taylor, for abominable offences, commenced at the Central Criminal Court,
Old Bailey, to-day.
At the close of the evidence for the prosecution counsel for the Crown withdrew the charges of conspiracy.
The case for the defence was then opened, and evidence to rebut the charges of misdemeanor called.
Oscar Wilde entered the witness box, and emphatically denied all the charges against him, alleging himself the victim of a blackmail
conspiracy.
The case is not yet concluded. It is causing much public excitement, and the court and its approaches are crowded daily.
The evidence hitherto has been mostly of such a character as to be unprintable.
