VERDICT FOR THE DEFENDANT.
THE PLAINTIFF SEVERELY CRITICISED.
LONDON, April 5.

At the conclusion of the evidence to-day the presiding judge, after summing up strongly in favor of the defendant, directed the jury to find the Marquis of Queensberry not guilty of the charge of criminal libel preferred against him.

The jury, in returning a verdict in accordance with the direction of the judge, held that the action of the Marquis of Queensberry was thoroughly justified, as the evidence had proved that Mr. Oscar Wilde had habitually associated with the lowest and most notoriously immoral of men, who were chiefly of the servant class.

Mr. Wilde withdrew from the case.
