PLAYS AND PLAYERS.
DRAMATIC GOSSIP.
BY "THE PROMPTER."

Oscar Wilde, talking to an interviewer a couple of months ago, alluded to the "higher ranks with the inner life of which I am best acquainted." The "higher ranks" doubtless feel flattered.

London "Truth," noticing the first performance of Oscar Wilde's latest play, The Importance of Being Earnest, says: — "The days of the 'Paradox a la Wilde' may be numbered. It may pass, as the cult of the lily has passed and the 'mode' of the green carnation." There had been no revelations when that was written, so that it reads now like a prophecy.
