GOSSIP OF THE DAY.

WILDE IN PRISON.

Oscar Wilde is said to have protested impetuously against having his hair cropped and being compelled to wear prison clothing. Wilde has been put to the ordinary form of labour meted out to prisoners at Pentonville. He has become very thin since his incarceration, and preserves a moody, reticent bearing, avoiding any conversation except to bewail his fate.
