WILDE IS ARRESTED
END OF THE DISGUSTING LONDON SCANDAL.
Queensberry’ counsel threatened to produce much nauseating evidence, whereupon Wilde’s lawyer allows the case to go to the jury — Queensberry justified.

London, April 5. — The jury in the Oscar Wilde libel suit found the Marquis of Queensberry not guilty and further declared that Queensberry’s charges against Oscar Wilde were true and made for the public good.

When the trial of the case was resumed today the court room was crowded. Counsel for the defendant in resuming his speech said he would put upon the stand servants, valets, etc, would speak freely of their connections with Wilde. Overwhelming evidence of the abominable immorality of Wilde would be produced.

Counsel for Wilde interrupted at this point and said he had consulted with Wilde, and in order to save the court painful details connected with the rest of the case he was prepared to accept the verdict of the jury in regard to Wilde’s literature. The judge said the jury must return a verdict of guilty or not guilty as regards the entire case. The jury then rendered a verdict as stated. When the verdict was rendered the Marquis of Queensberry left the dock amid cheers. The court granted an order requiring Wilde to pay the costs of the defence. Wilde was not in court when the verdict was given.

A warrant for the arrest of Oscar Wilde will, it is excepted, be promptly applied for. Copies of all the witnesses statements and shorthand notes of the trial have been furnished to the public prosecutor.
