Oscar Wilde and the British Museum.

The Exchange Telegraph Company states that the Chief Librarian of the British Museum has issued an order prohibiting Oscar Wilde’s novels being issued in the reading-room, even for the purposes of reference. On inquiring at the Museum this afternoon our representative was referred to Dr Garnett, the Keeper of Printed Books. Dr Garnett absolutely declined to make any statement on the subject. He would neither reply "yes" nor "no." In order to find out for himself, our representative then visited the reading-room, and filled up a ticket for "Dorian Grey." After waiting twenty minutes, he had the slip returned to him, marked "not available." The Executive Counsel of the Paddington Free Library have decided to withdraw from circulation the whole of Oscar Wilde’s books.
