THE Oscar Wilde case has happily terminated without any further details being entered into. Despite the fine literary fencing in the witness … the Apostle of the Beautiful the conclusion from the first was inevitable, and the last scene was reached this morning when, to save further disclosure, Mr Wilde’s counsel consented to the acquittal of the Marquis of Queensberry. The less said about the case the better. The sooner Mr. Wilde retires from the atmosphere of decent society with his theories of Beauty, Truth, and Immortality, the better also.

IT is not a little curious that three of the chief actors in this drama are Irishmen—Mr Justice Collins, Mr Oscar Wilde, and Mr. Carson, Q C.

IT remains to be seen what effect the verdict will have on the plays of Mr Oscar Wilde, of which there are many being produced. Two are running in London at present, the names of which are interesting. "The Importance of being Earnest" is being produced at the St James’s and "The Ideal Husband" at the Haymarket. Besides these other plays are being produced in the provinces, America, and, Salome, Mr Wilde’s play written in French, is awaiting production by Sara Bernhardt. It is hard to see how these dramas can continue to be produced.
