THE question of Lord Queensberry’s costs is still agitating the Treasury, which proposed to deal with him in a characteristically penurious spirit (writes our London Correspondent). Lord Queensberry has actually got an offer from them, after much trouble, to refund him his expenses to the extent of £150, which would leave him about £1,850 out of pocket. But the Treasury Solicitors’ Department, so amazingly liberal in dealing with the lawyers it employs itself, cannot be convinced that Lord Queensberry could have spent the amount he says on getting up the case against Oscar Wilde. In the long run it is probable that a public subscription will be promoted to refund Lord Queensberry his outlay, a circumstance that will not redound very much to the credit of the Treasury.
