His father, Sir William Wilde, was one of the ablest oculists in Europe, while his mother was well-known as a poetess and writer. As a dramatist, Oscar, too, had acquired no mean fame, Now at the age of 39, with a wife and two sons to share the ignominy, his reputation is utterly blasted.
