HE BUNCOED OSCAR WILDE
HE SWINDLED OSCAR WILDE.

"Hungry Joe" first came into prominence when inspector Williams was in command of the "Tenderloin" district. One of his most successful games was that played on Oscar Wilde, when that aesthetic person first visited this country. He swindled the disciple of the sunflower and the lily out of $2.500, but Inspector Williams, to whom Wilde appealed, took a hand in the game, aud, cornering "Hungry Joe," made him return the money.
