GOSSIP OF LONDON.
Special Dispatch to the CHRONICLE.

The committee appointed to raise funds for the purchase of the residence of the late Thomas Carlyle, in order to fit it up as a Carlyle museum, have already collected £1722, and it is expected that the purchase will be completed in May, and that the museum will open in June. Carlyle's writing-desk was among the articles recently auctioned off to the sale of the belongings of Oscar Wilde. It brought 14 guineas, and was probably secured by an American.
