Attempt Being Made to Excite Public
Pity for Oscar Wilde.

An attempt is being made to excite the public pity for Oscar Wilde by reason of the sad effects of prison discipline upon the esthete. It is declared that he is lost 22 pounds in weight and has become seriously enfeebled both in mind and body. His case is being used as additional argument against the present prison regime, which has been many times condemned as cruel and inhuman.

It is affirmed that Wilde and the other prisoners are really suffering from sheer lack of nourishment, and that the rations supplied are shamefully inadequate for the demands of a healthy appetite.
