We should not advise the public to become very curious as to the identity of the English Cabinet Minister who is said to be involved in the Oscar Wilde scandal. If there is any truth in the report no influence can long conceal the facts. Neither will it be powerful enough to keep the offender in his present position. Consideration for his family may operate to let him down easily, but once he is out the matter will be in other hands and the truth will come out. In the present outrage state of the English public mind it may even be impossible to shield him even temporarily.
