The prominence newly attained by the Marquis has not been of a kind wholly desirable. The libel suit brought against him by Wilde at the direct instigation of the defendant led to a series of revelations that must have been far from pleasant. It showed that one son was involved with Wilde, that another was on unfriendly terms with his father, and altogether made an exposé of the skeleton in the Queensberry closet.
