LORD DOUGLAS IN THE COUNTY JAIL.
A Son of the Marquis of Queensberry Prevented from Making a Mesalliance.

Bakersfield, Cal., April 23.—Sholto Douglas, a son of the Marquis of Queensberry, himself the bearer of a title, was arrested here to-day on a warrant charging him with insanity. Lord Sholto has been here for several months, and has gained the reputation of being a sport. To-day he procured a license to marry a notorious woman, but before he could arrange the marriage he was arrested on the charge of insanity.

Lord Douglas in the county jail, boiling with rage at the friends who prevented his nuptials. If they had not interfered, pretty Loretta Addis, a waitress in a dive, would now be his wife. Douglas met her some months ago, shortly after he came here to manage a forty-acre ranch belonging to his mother, the Marchioness of Queensberry, and at once became infatuated with her. He is perfectly sane, of course, and will soon secure his release, for which purpose he has engaged counsel.

Last night Lord Douglas was swindled out of $600 by a crowd of tin-horn gamblers, and gave them checks on a bank in which he has no deposit.
