THE OSCAR WILDE CAMPAIGN IN PARIS.

We understand that none of the eminent Frenchmen whose names mentioned in connection with the petition for the release of Oscar Wilde have yet signed the document. It is proposed that the signatories shall not be asked to express any opinion on the justice of the sentence that Oscar Wilde is now undergoing, but will simply be invited to support a total or partial commutation of the sentence on "humanitarian and artistic" grounds. As this is the case, the suggestions that Wilde is the victim of inhuman treatment, which are made in the Paris Press, may well be abandoned, for if they reach England, they are not likely to improve the chances of the Paris petition obtaining the considerations its promoters are desirious it shall receive.
