Le 28 février, un écrivain anglais bien connu, M. Oscar Wilde, trouvait à son club une carte du marquis de Queensberry, sur laquelle le
noble lord avait écrit des mots injurieux, l’accusant d’avoir — ou de passer pour avoir — des moeurs inavouables. Il porta plainte; de là, arrestation du
marquis, autorisation de poursuivre devant la cour d’assises et procès qui s’est jugé hier.
Le 18 février dernier, M. Oscar Wilde trouvait à son club une carte du marquis de Queensberry sur laquelle celui-ci avait écrit des mots
injurieux, l'accusant d'avoir -- ou de poser pour avoir -- des mœurs inavouables. Le marquis prétend, on le sait, arracher son fils cadet, le jeune lord
Alfred Douglas, à l'amitié de l'écrivain.
A l’audience, l’avocat de M. Wilde a ani noncé que son client abandonnait la poursuite, pour éviter des débats scandaleux.
Le jury a rapporté un verdict déclarant que l'accusation publique faite par le marquis était justifiée, et M. Wilde a été aussitôt
arrêté; il a comparu ce matin devant le magistrat de police.
