In a reply to a letter from Mr. William K. Wilde, asking for information concerning his brother's physical and mental condition, the Governor of Peutonville wrote, re Oscar Wilde, under date June 5: "The newspaper reports are cruel fabrications. Prisoner is going on very well. In the event of serious illness a communication would be sent at once."
